Routine Cleaning, Exams and Checkups
Preventative dental care is an important factor in maintaining good oral hygiene. Preventative behaviors begin at home, with consistent and proper brushing and flossing. These behaviors can prevent tooth decay, as well as the onset of disease.
The practices of brushing the teeth and tongue at least twice per day, as well as flossing will assist in proper oral hygiene. While these behaviors are tantamount to good health, knowing how to perform these tasks properly is also important. Use of a soft, nylon toothbrush is imperative, and this toothbrush can either be manual or electric. Placing the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle along the gum line covers both the entire tooth and the gums. Gently move the toothbrush back and forth in a circular motion, which will remove any plaque or food residue that may be present. Also, brushing on top of the teeth, and also the insides of the teeth is important.
Flossing in between teeth can help prevent decay and infections. Floss should be at least 18 inches in length, which provides enough length to wrap around fingers for support. The remaining portion of floss is then inserted between the teeth and moved up and down. This motion will remove any plaque or food particles that may be present.
Routine visits to the dentist, preferably every six months, can help prevent serious dental problems. Routine visits allow for the dentist to see any issues missed during preventative cleaning at home. Children of six months and older should also begin routine visits to a dentist, to ensure proper and long lasting oral hygiene.

Dr. Hussain is one of the best dentists I've ever had. She's extremely positive and friendly, and explains any issues and causes before and after a service. It's easy asking her questions and voicing concerns. She has a wonderful staff and admin is very good about appointment reminders and confirmations. It's actually quite a pleasant experience visiting Smiles at Telfair—they beat all the dentist office scares and stereotypes :)
Dr. Hussain and her team at Smile at Telfair were awesome. Went in with some tooth pain and walked out feeling good. Definitely will be returning to finish the remainder of my dental work. Thank you Smiles at Telfair.
Right from the beginning when I walked through the door, every fear that I ever thought I would have coming back to the dentist was dissipated by Dr. Insiya and her staff. They took wonderful care of all my fears. They explained every little thing that I would be going through. Clean office and great staff!
This team is a good group of people/ professionals. The staff is always very informative and we always end up having a good laugh. This is the type of relationship I expect from a neighborhood Dentist. I had brought my Mother who doesn't speak English. The Doctor was fluent in my Mother's language and it brought such comfort to her. And it was very comforting to me as well. Thank You Smiles at Telfair.
